Lions put Pirates to the Sword

On a cold day, the game was unfortunately delayed by the lack of an ambulance. Showing their class and for which Birmingham are grateful, UEA had a whip round to keep the game on. Playing ten minute quarters, two heavy running games saw the first quarter go with neither team making great headway, although UEA missed a field goal attempt. In the second, Birmingham produced a sound drive, but UEA stopped both WR Nick Dobson and QB Neale Canning from short distance. Nonetheless, after a strong defensive stand and an interception from CB James Taylor, WR Nick Dobson was able to run the ball in from 4 yards. UEA came out fighting after the half and broke a long run from a broken dive play that bounced outside leaving them 1 st and goal on the 2 yard line, from which they scored although, DE Adam Hitchman blocked the PAT. Despite the pressure, Birmingham 's offence answered quickly with a long run from RB Mark Smith settling the team once more. To cement their position, RB Mark Smith kicked a great onside, which, aided by a block by LB Matt Jones, SS Emir Battaloglu snapped up to give Birmingham another offensive drive. UEA tried hard to find a way back in, but two interceptions from CB Gareth Price saw off any real hope until finally RB Mark Smith put the game beyond hope scoring from a screen.
